One of Esteemed's partners is seeking a Software Development Manager.

The Full-time Software Development Manager position is filled with many exciting opportunities! In this role, you will have the opportunity to impact the business every day by supporting the research, design, and development of computer software systems in conjunction with hardware product development.

 

Responsibilities

• Exercises independent judgment and discretion in overall project management by prioritizing, planning, and tracking project progress.
• Consult with managers or other personnel to clarify program intent, identify problems, suggest changes, and determine the extent of programming and coding required.
• Assigns duties and reviews the work of software developers.
Oversees the design, architecture, development, and modification of applications, including prototypes developed by the software development teams.
• Creates and enforces usage of standards, best practices, and guidelines by team members.
• Works with the architecture group as a key member and software developer to analyze and implement new technologies, programming methodologies, patterns, and best practices.
• Establishes and enforces appropriate unit testing within the development teams to ensure code is ready to move into the Quality Assurance process.
• Establishes and monitors team & developer metrics relating to velocity, capacity, and quality.
• Revises or directs revision of existing programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements.
• Compiles documentation of program development and subsequent revisions.
• Assists in the administration of personnel functions including recruiting, review of job descriptions, and selection and placement of personnel.
• Trains subordinates in software design and program coding.
• Works with computer manufacturers and other users to develop new programming methods.
• Prepares records and reports.

     

    Skills Needed

    • Knowledge to use several development languages to produce applications such as XML, .NET, and TSQL.
    • Knowledge to a high degree of understanding of relational databases, multi-tier software architecture, use of metadata and catalogs, and web-based security.
    • Knowledge of relational database concepts and experience with SQL Server, MySQL, Access, and Oracle.
    • Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and programs.
    • Knowledge of company services and products.
    • Knowledge of customer service methods and procedures.
    • Skill to locate technology solutions and apply to the application, business, and system needs.
    • Knowledge of report development using various versions of Cognos, and SQL Server Reporting Services.
    • Knowledge of web-based report delivery and security administration.
    • Skill that demonstrates high technical prowess.
    • Skill to use sound problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
    • Skill to use great attention to detail with a focus on software development, testing, and quality assurance.
    • Skill to use and compose clear, comprehensive, and accurate verbal and written communication and reports.
    • Skill to establish and maintain filing systems, format, proofread, edit documents, and perform calculations.
    • Skill to use Ultipro, Isynergy, Word, Excel, and Outlook with proficiency.
    • Skill to be organized, give attention to detail, and exercise follow-up.
    • Skill to research and analyze data and prepare recommendations.
    • Skill to effectively plan, organize, and prioritize work assignments to meet deadlines.
    • Ability to manage stateside, near-shore, and offshore development teams.
    • Ability to be effective when working independently or cooperatively as a team member.
    • Ability to consistently project a professional appearance and demeanor.
    • Ability to exercise professional judgment and initiative.
    • Ability to interface with multiple departments, multi-task, and work independently.
    • Ability to listen carefully and respond to or refer to customer requests and problems with diplomacy and a sense of urgency.

    The Attributes We Seek

    • Keys to success in this position include having three (3) years of experience developing software or six (6) years of experience developing other software with project management experience. 
    • A minimum of three (3) years of associate software development experience. 
    • A high level of project and people management skills within a software development environment is needed. 
    • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent, is required.
